Italian Greyhound (short coat) Dog

Luca the Dog needs a home

Hi there! I’m Luca! I just learned my new name – my previous people didn’t name me! I go by Luca, Luca Bear, Bear, Luc, Luc-y, & Luca Valentino. I’m five years old and until three months ago I didn’t realize that people could be nice. No one had ever cuddled and loved me or made sure I received any medical treatment. But my amazing foster mom took me to the nice doctor and now I’m up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and have been neutered. Yay! Due to poor nutrition I had to have all of my teeth removed but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying my food! I love food!! And just think, you don't have any teeth to brush or dentals to schedule for me! I really want to be your new best friend, but understandably, I’m very cautious. I’m still learning what it means to be loved and cared for so it’s taking me a bit of time to realize some people are really nice. I don’t know how to initiate cuddling but when my foster mommy holds me, I love to nestle my nose under her arm and I stay there in short doses. However, I know that other dogs are the BEST! I love to watch from afar what my foster brothers are doing with their mommy. I really hope my new home has other small dogs that I can be best buds with because I feel safer around my big foster brothers. I will take treats from your hand when offered and the best part is I will never accidentally nip you because I don’t have teeth! I am starting to learn how to play with toys and it is so much fun! OK, so I’m really hoping you’re patient because I was never trained about rules or boundaries. My behavior is more of a puppy than an adult dog since a life of freedom is so new. My foster mommy is trying to teach me that it’s rude to go potty just anywhere and I’m learning that potty pads is what’s acceptable, but it’s hard to remember that all the time. I really need a secure, fenced in yard because I am a little cautious but curious about the outdoors (I have only been inside of a kennel for 5 years as a breeding dog). An apartment may be a good fit too because I am quiet. I also need to go to a home without young children. I just didn’t know there was anything better in life until now. So lots of things scare me and I really hope you can be patient and understanding so I have a chance to learn how to love and be loved. Can you be my forever home? Please note: Luca needs a quiet, very patient home with someone experienced with IG's and preferably, with puppy mill dogs or very shy/skittish dogs. He will need continued work in his forever home and it may take him months to be at the point where he will enjoy cuddles and lap time. He is just starting leash training and is exclusively using potty pads indoors.  WE WILL CONSIDER ADOPTERS IN NEBRASKA AND IOWA AND MAY CONSIDER OUR SURROUNDING STATES DEPENDING ON DISTANCE.
